Overall
aim of the Certificate
The
overall aim of the programme is to enable participants to develop the necessary
knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake training activities. These include
the development of planning, delivery and evaluation skills in the area of
training and development.
Who
should undertake the programme?
The
IITD Certificate is suitable for the following:
-
Individuals who have an interest in training and development and may wish
to pursue it as a career.
- Individuals who have recently taken up a position in training at a junior
level
- Technical trainers and trainers with considerable involvement in operator
training.
- Supervisors who are interested in acquiring a knowledge and understanding
of systematic training.
Successful
completion of the Certificate course enables participants to be accepted as
students on the IITD Diploma in Training and Development.
Structure,
Learning Methods and Assessment
Participants
will attend 75 hours of training.
The
structure is as follows:
Module 1 - 25 hours
Module 2 - 25 hours
- Interpersonal Skills Development
- Delivering Training
Module 3 - 25 hours
- Training Strategies
- Training Administration
The
programme content has been broken down into three integrated modules. The course
is highly participative and practical in nature. A range of learning methods
will be used which are designed to combine sufficient theory and practice.
Assessment
will be on-going throughout the duration of the programme, through a combination
of module assignments, classroom activity and a comprehensive programme project
and presentation. For each module
of the programme participants will complete at least one assignment. All
assignments will be designed to ground input material while relating to each
participant's work situation. This will help to ensure a maximum transfer of
learning to the workplace.
The
purpose of the final project is to provide participants with the opportunity to
demonstrate the knowledge, skills, learning ideas and confidence acquired during
the course, while at the same time presenting their employing organisation with
a piece of work of potential value.

Module 1 - Systematic Training
Learning
objectives
By
the end of this module, participants should:
- understand the content and nature of systematic training
- be able to design a systematic training programme
- be able to assess the effectiveness of training given.
Content
Context of Systematic Training - organisation structure, culture and
behaviour - training policies and plans - relationships between training and
other manpower activities - training department organisation and the role of the
training officer and other training specialists.
Undertaking Systematic Training - Role and task analysis - motivation and
its relevance to training - why and how people learn - writing learning
objectives - programme facilities and equipment - presenting training proposals.
Assessing Training Effectiveness -Validation of training activities -
evaluation of training and learning methods used - presenting the results of
training - carrying out training audits.

Module
2 - Interpersonal Skills Development
Learning
objectives
By
the end of this module, participants should be able to demonstrate appropriate
training and management communication skills and be able to deliver a training
session to set objectives using a range of training methods.
a)
Interpersonal Skills - communication skills, written, spoken or verbal -
consultancy skills - assertiveness - coaching and counselling skills - writing
training proposals.
b)
Delivering Training - demonstration and instruction - making
presentations and mini-lectures - using group discussions and case study
approaches - use of role plays and business games - producing visual aids and
equipment - producing training materials providing feedback.

3 -Training Strategies and Training Administration
Learning
Objectives
At
the end of this module participants should be aware of the main issues in
selecting training strategies and administrating training.
a)
Training Strategies - strategies and tactics- internal and external
delivery - information technology, interactive video and computer based training
- open/distance learning - action learning; on the job training.
b)
Training Administration - producing training budgets - producing training
costings - collecting and maintaining training records - assessing resource
requirements for training - applying for grant assistance from FAS.
The
Programme Project
Formulating a project proposal and gaining approval of client
organisation and programme tutor.
Researching and writing the project.
Making a presentation on key findings, methodology and learning issues at
end of programme.
The
project is designed to develop consultancy skills, writing and presentation
skills and it allows the participant pursue an area of interest within the
framework of the programme.
